Sorry for the lack of blog posts in the past few weeks… months… years… I’ve been busy lately.
I spent the winter and spring in Chattanooga TN editing my new film Western Gold and getting it ready for release. I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out and with the incredible feedback I’ve been receiving. Before I started filming for Western Gold I invested a lot of money in new camera and video equipment and really set out to take my craft to the next level. If you have ever enjoyed any video I’ve made then you will love Western Gold because it is leaps and bounds above anything I’ve created before.
I’m a perfectionist in everything I do which can make accomplishing something slow and time consuming but the results are always worth it. The film is all about the best boulders in each of five lessor known areas. A few of the areas in the film you may have heard of before like Squamish or Red Rocks but I doubt you have seen them on display in this quality before. I really wanted to share an authentic bouldering experience on the best lines, whether it’s V5 or V13. While I am featured in the film, the vast majority of climbers are local stars from each area. Many fly completely under the radar without any sponsorships even though they are incredibly talented. Here are a couple of reviews to give you an idea of what others are saying about the film:
Mountains and Water – “I would unhesitatingly recommend this film to anyone who cares about the sport of climbing, even those who don’t boulder. At an hour and a half, plus some excellent bonus material, Western Gold offers a voyage of discovery that few other films can match.”
Lloyd Climbing – “The entire film has been meticulously crafted with an attention to detail unmatched in other bouldering films…Almost all bouldering films have at least one song, scene, or story that I find distracting or annoying, but this one doesn’t. It renews my hope for the genre.”
If you haven’t seen Western Gold yet, you can pick it up on HD Download or DVD in our store.
Moving on to the roadtrip… I left the South about three weeks ago on a journey back to Squamish.
I don’t know if you’ve driven through Kansas before but it’s really exciting, let me paint a picture for you:
And after driving 6 hours this is what’s waiting for you on the other side of Kansas:
Pretty exciting stuff there..
It was 90 degrees and humid for most of the drive so we were thinking it would be perfect in Colorado. Upon arrival in Rocky Mountain National Park we were greeted with falling snow. It was beautiful and we went on a hike up to Emerald Lake to look at some pretty boulders.
We didn’t get much climbing done in Colorado so we kept moving west and stopped at Arches National Park in Utah. If you haven’t been, you need to. It’s beautiful.
After Arches we made our way to Joe’s Valley and met up with some old friends and had a super fun time.
Check back in a few days for a blog post on the Tetons & Yellowstone including pictures of GRIZZLY CUBS!!
