Summer seems to have finally arrived in Squamish.  It’s a couple months late but better late than never!  We’ve had perfect sunny weather for what feels like two whole weeks now!  Before that we had a weeklong stretch of rain so it feels great to soak up some sunshine.

The Chief in all it's 2,000+ feet of glory

My roommate Jeremy Rush climbing The Split Pillar pitch of the Grand Wall

A couple weeks ago I was on a roll, ticking off some boulders that I had been psyched to do since I got here.  I had been working on Agoraphobia for several days, coming really close to the first move crux but hadn’t quite stuck it yet.  Turns out all I needed was a little extra inspiration to try harder.  I had climbed three days in a row and I wasn’t planning to try it but we were walking right past it so I gave it a go and sent first try!  It was an entirely mental effort to try harder and stick that first move.

Last week, on my quest for top hundred glory, I was climbing by myself at the Smoke Bluffs.  I climbed a cool V8 called Snake Taint and then hiked over to a top hundred V8 called As Good As It Gets.  It’s a great looking line on a slightly overhanging wall.  It’s a bit tall but I decided to try it by myself anyway.  Long story short I spent a while working out the crux move and when I stuck it the second time I heard a pop come from my wrist…  Tendon is injured but it isn’t torn so hopefully I’ll be able to start climbing again in a few weeks.

On Sunday I was walking to the boulders with Ryan when all of a sudden everything started spinning violently and I lost my sense of balance.  I began leaning to the left, couldn’t walk straight and had to sit down.  I had a sudden onset of vertigo which is caused by an inner ear problem.  It’s a bizarre and disheartening experience.  I sat on the trail for 20 minutes and the dizziness didn’t go away but it did lessen enough for me to walk back to the car and get home.  I couldn’t go outside for two days without getting dizzy but it has gotten better now.  Today was the first day I left the house this week. I walked through the forest and took the photos you see here.  I was still a bit disoriented in the forest but I’m almost back to normal!  All my time at the house this week wasn’t a complete waste though, I managed to finish up this website which I’m pretty excited about!

I haven’t had the best stretch of luck lately but that’s ok, I could use some rest from climbing, plus I have a lot of filming and editing to get done.  We’ve got a lot of friends coming to stay with us this month including Asher & Flannery Shay-Nemirow, Chris, Lucas, Brooks Walker, Anthony Tarascio, and Christina Pilo! Psyched to see my old friends, and turn my camera on them!
