The US Tour and a Feature Film

As you may know, I am currently gearing up for a bouldering roadtrip in the good ol’ USA. I’ve climbed all over the states but never spent more than two weeks on the road here; needless to say, I’m excited! I have a very vague plan so far so if you have any destination suggestions, let me know!! My rough schedule for 2010 is to depart in the beginning of October, check out colorado for a week or two then head to Joes Valley for the rest of October before hitting Yosemite for the month of November. Then I’ll finish off the year in Hueco. In the spring/summer I want to check out the northwest including Squamish, Levenworth, and Goldbar. That’s the rough list so far, I’m sure I’ll make a lot of unplanned stops along the way which is the best part of traveling, the unexpected interactions with cool people and cool places.

The other big news is that I will be making a feature length climbing film during my travels in the US. I wish I could have made a DVD during my trip to Europe and South Africa but I didn’t feel like I was quite ready for the challenge. Now that I’ve spent more time filming & editing, I’m ready for the adventure. My latest release, Swanky Swizzy, has been met with rave reviews which gives me confidence that the community will enjoy watching my next creation.

My goal for the film is to capture climber’s emotions and to feature talented and inspiring individuals whom you may have never heard of, as well as world class climbing areas that fly under the radar such as Boone, Black Mountain, Tramway, Levenworth, Way Lake, etc.

One last thing, I’m excited to say that I am now sponsored by Evolv! I’ve used their shoes in the past with great success and I’m psyched to be wearing them again!

Awesome. Yeah I’ve been to arkansas but I need a proper tour next time I go. That place has been filmed a lot recently though but we’ll see.

Been following your blog for awhile, drop me an email if you need WA bouldering info or even a tour of non guidebook boulders- (WA isn’t super friendly to road-trippers as the climbs are spaced out and can be hard to find).
Be sure to check out the guidebook author’s blog: http://www.nwgranite.bloodspot.com

  • Alex Savage says:

Thanks for the offer Sam! I will probably hit you up whenever I’m headed out that way, would love to get a proper tour!

You should include Joshua Tree in the road trip too. I’ll give ya the tour buddy!

Nice Alex! Have you climbed much around Flagstaff? It’s easy to hit on your way back west from Hueco.

I gotta say: I’m behind you. I watch a crapload of climbing videos, and my favorite of them all is your Beowulf video. Something about it… the effort, the narrative rise, the music – it’s basically the best thing. That and the bits from First Ascent about that Belgian dude. Your videos got soul.

    Hey Alex,
Just thought you should visit Lost Rocks on the way up North (maybe on the way to squamish or something). There are some really really fun boulders, and the rock quality is actually very good. It’s also a very beautiful area, and you get to just go around exploring, not worrying about grades or difficulty, just climbing what looks fun. There is an awesome hard crimp line that I think you’d love (and destroy), when you first get to the beach and go left, if you go for a LONG time, maybe 45 mins or so, there will be an overhang facing the way you’ll approach. very obvious mini jug crimp to an awesome right hand mini crimp, then fall left hand into a small crimp. Dyno to a jug and hold the swing, and do an easy topout. You can actually see Chris Lindner doing the end section in Spray. If you have it, email me, and I’ll find the exact time in the film and also more specific directions. It’s totally worth stopping… free camping too!

Thanks a lot rorschah! Means a lot to have support! Beowulf is also one of my favorites! Amazing climb and amazing climber!

Thanks Keenan, I’ll have to check that out! Would be psyched to climb in norcal!
